COVID – 19 managed to shake the world in an unprecedented way that caused multiple sectors in our country to be affected. The working sector was no doubt one of the most impacted until now, we have yet to recover from the great loss of employees that the pandemic has caused. The Great Resignation was the term called for the mass quitting of jobs that spiked on the year 2021.
There are multiple reasons on why people have left their jobs but the major reasons are lockdowns, the downfall of the country’s economy, and stores closing would be where pandemic was to blame for. It noted that 64 percent of the survey respondents said they were either in the process of moving to another employer or might seek new employment in the next 12 months. With the resignation of jobs, it had also lost the sense of loyalty towards one company, on a 2022 survey conducted by PageGroup, it showed that 44 percent of survey respondents have been employed by their companies for not more than two years.
Employees have always looked for jobs that can give a higher salary but with the rate of inflation and high prices of goods and services, the need for a better job and high salary became a demand. In addition, employees have given more consideration in beneficiaries of one company such as SSS, Pag-Ibig and Phil health which the company itself would cover and handle. What is the purpose of having a high salary when almost half of it will be for the other insurances that the company should cover in the first place? Also considered is the hassle of having to line up and wait for hours so you could pay those insurances.
At the end of the day. The pandemic caused a cultural reset in every sector and also gave us a way to change outdated ways it set both positive and negative outcomes towards the society.
