
Total of 17 luxury cars worth P366 million were seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) from a warehouse in Makati City, bringing attention to the region’s ongoing smuggling problems, February 17.
According to BOC Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Director Verne Enciso, the operation was done together with the Philippine Coast Guard’s Task Force Aduana to serve the owner of the warehouse a Letter of Authority (LOA).
BOC said the seller of the luxury cars is ACH High-End Motor Service Center, located at No. 489 J.P. Rizal St., Makati City.
Enciso said severel luxury cars such as Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren were found in the warehouse. They are still verifying documents for these vehicles, the warehouse was padlocked, he said.
In order to avoid charges for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, Enciso stated, “the owners, lessees, lessors, occupants, representatives, or any parties responsible for the warehouse and vehicles have 15 days from the receipt of the LOAs to submit the necessary documents proving that all duties and taxes have been paid correctly.”
There will be penalties for breaking the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act if proper documentation is not provided.
