Ever heard of a pair of gloves with built in speakers? Navid Azodi and Thomas Pryor, MIT students who aim to make life easier, invented a device for differently-abled people, specifically the deaf and mute community. Inventive minds were the only things these 19 year olds needed to create a tool that caters to those of a different demographic and further dissolves the gap of the differently abled people from the rest of society.
Named “SignAloud”, these gloves are programmed to recognize hand gestures that correspond to words and phrases in American sign language. These gloves help both the wearer and the people around them, breaking the boundaries of communications. Sensors in each glove track the location and movement of the hands and wirelessly transmit the data to a central computer via Bluetooth. Like a neural network, the computer analyzes the gesture data using a series of sequential statistical regressions. The relevant word or phrase is delivered through a speaker if the data corresponds to a gesture.

Today, this tech duo have only developed a prototype yet promising improvements can be noticed. New devices are invented every month, with many aiming to give notice to differently-abled people or those in minority groups, and aid them in leading a smooth life.
